Head Spa FAQ
A head spa is a unique form of both relaxation and scalp/hair treatment. It includes a gentle scalp massage, deep cleansing and the use of nourishing products individualized for your unique hair and scalp needs. It can help with dryness, product build-up, brings circulation to thinning hair and deep conditions the hair. However, the most wonderful part of it is that it is relaxing and soothing. If you like your hair played with and head massages, then you will love the head spa experience.
Because this is a relaxation treatment, please come in comfortable clothing because we bet that when you are done you may want to to be a couch potato or under the covers! During the head spa you have the option of changing into a SOLO provided robe or you can remain in your street clothes.
Ideally, you will come without make-up. Your hair DOES NOT need to be clean but to maximize your head spa time, please have it tangle free. To maximize relaxation time, please come with your hair combed and tangle free. It is also best not to come with recently applied self-tanning lotion as we use water mist and it could make your tan bleed.
Anyone over the age of 12 would enjoy the experience provided you do not have a SIGNIFICANTLY sensitive head (but even then, we can make adjustments to your desire).
Who should not get it:
Anyone who has recently received chemical hair treatments such as dying and perms within the past two weeks. Anyone with braids, extensions or synthetic hair or dreadlocks. Anyone with a skin infection, head wound or contagious condition. Anyone who has a spine or neck injury- those with spinal fusions should consult their doctor. Anyone with allergic reactions to the products used. Anyone on a medication that deems a head spa not recommended based on your doctors advice. After your head spa: It is best to wait 48-hours after your head spa service to get your hair colored or lightened.
Thinning or balding? It's ok, a head spa is good for you too. Not only does it feel wonderful, it will stimulate your hair follicles.
Only a licensed Cosmetologist is authorized to run a head spa. We are licensed through the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.
It improves scalp circulation, it nourishes the hair follicles , and the products we use can target hair thinning. It is a nice addition to your hair loss treatment plan but will not be a cure.
Although we wish it could help a condition like eczema or psoriasis, it would just sooth irritation and reduce sensitivity, but it will not make any clinical impact of these conditions which require the consultation of a dermatologist.
As long as you do not have a scalp condition that is contraindicated, you could do it once a week. If you are trying to grow your hair, then every 3-4 weeks would be great. Also, if we find that you have a scalp condition that needs to be addressed, making the Head Spa part of your hair/scalp care routine would be key to healing your scalp and making your scalp and hair healthier. Many people have dry hair that has a lot of damage or build up. The Head Spa helps with the health of the hair with deep conditioning and steam. Hair that grows is healthy hair and a Head Spa supports healthy hair!
